Things they give you when you donate blood

Sometimes, when there is a blood drive, they give out swag of some sort to donors.  I have a Red Cross Red Sox T-shirt, a Red Cross Bruins T-shirt; I've gotten a five-dollars-off coupon for chocolates, a coupon for an ice cream cone, things like that.

Monday, I got the most pathetic gift I've ever gotten.  Any guesses?  I'll put it in comments, but I'd love to hear your ideas as to what the worst possible blood donation gift would be.  And note: I'm restricting it to worst POSSIBLE gift, not worst IMAGINEABLE, because it's one I actually got.

Socks. A pair of plain white athletic socks with the New Balance logo on them.

Not even a Red Cross on them. I mean, a pair of socks with a Red Cross embroidered on them, or even PRINTED on them, would have been cool. But, no, just plain socks.

I intend to take a red Sharpie to them, and draw a +. If they didn't make Red Cross socks, I'll do it myself.

That's just ridiculous.

I was going to guess a sticker.

Socks are useful, so there's that. I like your logo-adding plan; that is a good plan.

Stickers are awesome. I am always really excited when they have stickers.

Anything that would motivate a toddler will work on me, too.

My guess would have been a box of Band-Aids.

If the box said "I GAVE BLOOD", or if it was one of those small pocket/purse Band-Aid dispensers, that'd be cool.

I think over here you get a drink of squash and a biscuit.

[identity profile] crewgrrl.livejournal.com 2012-05-03 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what you get here too. Though usually it's apple juice.

[identity profile] xiphias.livejournal.com 2012-05-03 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I got that, too. The socks were in addition.

A drink of squash! Pumpkin juice! *ligtbulb*

Squash = fruit syrup diluted with water.

I knew that, I had just missed the *pun*. There are so very many puns in the Harry Potter books.

A ballpoint pen that says "I donated blood!". 'Cos how many people are going to look at your pen?

Even worse, a pencil.

[identity profile] xiphias.livejournal.com 2012-05-03 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I would TOTALLY go for a pen, or even pencil that said that.

A lollipop?

[identity profile] xiphias.livejournal.com 2012-05-03 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I like lollipops. In any case, I DID get all the cookies, Doritos, cranberry juice and ginger-ale I could eat.

Interesting. I always refuse the free t-shirt and suggest they donate it to a needy kid. Have more t-shirts than I can ever use and do not need another dustcatcher. It's better going to someone who can appreciate it.

Y'know, you could always give any spare shirts to a needy kid...

My guess was going to be a copy of Breaking Dawn.

*snrch* Heh.

I don't diss on TWILIGHT, because I've never read it, or seen any of the movies. Now, from what I've heard, I don't think I'd enjoy it, so I don't intend to read it or see the movies, but I also don't feel that I have any right to say bad stuff about something I know nothing about. Besides, when the first book came out, one of the then-waitresses at the diner really liked it. So I know that some people like it, and some people hate it, and the odds are that I'd be in the second category, but I don't KNOW that.

It would be way too apropos for a blood donation, though, because vampires.

I liked those socks. I got them about two weeks ago when I donated my double red cells. Then again those socks are good for my thrice weekly jogging excursions. Not everyone is so inclined.

A pamphlet about blood-borne diseases?

[identity profile] arib.livejournal.com 2012-05-04 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't the Red Cross giving out McDOnald's coupons this month?
