An apology since I was kinda a jerk the other day

A couple days ago, I posted a thing about how much I didn't like JavaScript, and in it, I took a dig at MBAs. A friend of mine pointed out that this is just not cool.

Yeah.

Taking a dig at a class of people is just wrong in general. And taking a dig at people because of something they spent time, energy, work, and study at? Something that they take pride in? Mocking an actual achievement?

Yeah, I was a jerk.

I'm sorry.

Danke.

Damn acronyms!

I just tried to work this out through googling and got "Master of Business Administration". Other options were "Mountain Bothies Association" and "Marine Biologists Association".

What did you mean by MBAs?

Masters of Business Administration. It's a Masters' level degree in, yes, administering businesses, and is often a prerequisite for management positions of a given level of responsibility. I'm not actually entirely clear on everything that one learns as an MBA, but I believe it includes things about managing people, of managing resources for project allocation, and even some micro- and macroeconomics. It's a pretty wide-ranging group of topics, basically, as I understand it, being something along the like of "the group of skills which will allow someone to be effective in a capitalistic and/or corporate environment and market", but Undauntra can correct me if I'm off-base on that.

Ah, you did mean that. Okay... Well that's that cleared up. :)

I suspect the real reason that they are using Javascript is that it's something that most web browsers can parse, and therefore available to most people who would subscribe to the challenge.

That would be my bet, also as it runs in web browsers and a large number of other places as well these days it is more and more a very useful language.

I just found out about the Code Year challenge. It is a weekly assignment to help you learn a programming language, maybe more than one. The challenge is starting off with Javascript which I don't know. I don't have any need to know Javascript, but I figure it will be a fun way to help sharpen my programming skills some more (and it possibly may be useful at work once I see what I can do with it).

Thank you.

(not that I have an MBA, but I respect people who do... and also, the degree I covet - a CPA - is often treated the same way)

I think the issue is with the DEGREE itself. Having worked the hi-tech industry for 20 years, I find MBA degrees to be utterly useless with regard to actual... Business Administration. But The Suits tend to think they do. This is turn reflects on the people that GET the degree. Far too many, tend to wave the Holy Piece of Paper like a scepter. This a fruitful relationship make does not.
