After weeding out position papers from lobbying groups and attorneys for corporations, there are apparently 11 people in the United States who are in favor of it.

I mean, you couldn't form a jury of people who are in favor of media consolidation in the US.

It looks like it is going to happen anyway.

Honestly, this is where assasination of Michael Powell starts to look reasonable. But there must be another way. Can Congress impeach or recall him before the vote? The horrible thing here is that I used to respect John McCain, the chair of the telecommunications committee.

Ayup. I remember the first NPR story I heard about this. As of 4/4, there had been one network news story. At 2am on I think ABC.

The FCC is an administrative agency, reporting to the President. While Congress had to approve Powell's appointment, I don't think the Constitution gives them the power to remove him once he's approved.

Besides -- do you really think this Congress would replace Powell with someone who would do something differently?
