Carla Howell is really annoying. She invokes the Libertarian Monkey far too much. (The Libertarian Monkey is an important part of Libertarian political rhetoric. Whenever you ask a Libertarian how they'd deal with a societal problem, they say, "We'd eliminate government, and that would solve the problem because -- LOOK! A monkey!")

Also, any time a candidate starts every answer by repeating a mantra, you have to suspect that they're spouting dogma, not thought. "Small Government is Beautiful". She said it six times during the hour. That's not a thought -- that's a slogan. And when slogans replace thought, you ain't goin' nowhere good.

I also learned that the Green Party is putting forward an intelligent, well-spoken, articulate, thoughtful, (and downright cute) candidate. Okay, I suppose most people who know me know that "cute" is a function of "intelligent", "well-spoken", "articulate", and "thoughtful", but still. . .

I think the candidates from that debate I'd most want in office are the Green and the Independant. Carla Howell makes me want to run screaming. In her case I'm glad she'll never get elected. Very VERY glad.u

I didn't know the Winged Victory of Samothrace was a monkey. . . .

Heh. I have a friend who calls that the Fuzzy Tiger when used in writing, after a Dave Barry anecdote about distracting a small child. I didn't realize there was a whole menagerie of distracting animals.

Wow! The same issue had been recently on my mind, and I had posted a specific incident of such "monkey-ing" about! What you said is well put! And now I have a name for it. Thank you!
