Patches likes to do this with kibble. At some point, my father started throwing individual kibbles across the kitchen floor for her. She thinks this is the best game ever.
Also, plain old hard kibble keeps most cats' teeth clean. When my folks adopted Patches, her teeth were in dire need of a cleaning according to the vet. Next visit they were fine. It seems like her first owners never put out hard food for her.
