One of the things I like about small children is watching them learn, experiment, and figure out the world.

With older babies, and younger toddlers, they sometimes look like someone playing a text adventure

OK, that made me laugh. WAY too true.

[identity profile] madcaptenor.livejournal.com 2008-08-09 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't see why you can't use lion with egg.

[identity profile] xiphias.livejournal.com 2008-08-10 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Neither do they. So they keep trying it.

based on Lila's afternoon, I'd offer this addendum:

> MAKE LION EAT EGG
The lion lunges forward onto the egg, growling "Nom nom nom" as it attacks. The egg shrieks with glee.

> MAKE EGG EAT LION
The egg lunges forward onto the lion, growling "Nom nom nom" as it attacks. The lion shrieks with glee.

I'm glad I'm not in an office, because that made me laugh a LOT :)

I'm also glad I'm not in an office, but for reasons entirely unrelated to this post.

Well, technically you can eat eggs. Just not plush ones, LOL.

*eyes the plush platypus eggs that Henry got yesterday* >_______>

[identity profile] madcaptenor.livejournal.com 2008-08-10 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but you really should cook the eggs before eating them.

Not to mention that they're always trying to use magic words such as xyzzy. Naturally though, nothing happens.

nothing *obvious* happens :)

I know a friend whose toddler is quite contented to watch that video over and over and over and over again. The previous generation was raised in front of the television; this one will be raised in front of YouTube.

[identity profile] bikergeek.livejournal.com 2008-08-10 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
This is probably a good thing. YouTube at least offers an element of interactivity. (Hopefully the various copyright holders don't end up shutting it down.)

My previously-local Virtual Nephew was raised on "Yes and No", among other things. He couldn't get enough of that, and then he graduated to Strongbad (and learned what kind of a bad role model Strongbad was, and got grounded from watching Strongbad once after following Strongbad's bad example, & never did *that* again).

I like this revealation. It suddenly puts their actions into a whole new light. So maybe it is not the boogeyman they are afraid of at night, it is the grue hiding out in the darkness.

This is awesomeness for SO many reasons, not the least of which is to discover that other people know what Adventure is/was!

Thanks for posting. :-)

Has had both me and the spousal unit laughing - our Mr Three is still in this phase sometimes.

(Until about three years ago when we gave in to a windoze computer, Adventure for PC and Frac were the only two computer games we had.)
