It depends on the rye. The Ritenhouse 10 Year Bottled-in-Bond got four stars in Paul Pacult's Spirit Journal, and darn near got 5 stars -- not bad for a $14 bottle. Done right, rye has a nutty, spicy sweetness and is one of the finest expressions of whiskey there is, second only to Scotch.
