I think the most shameless promotion bit I ever did was when I was a grad student volunteer at an academic conference. Someone who I knew was in a position to hire folk came up and asked me where the restrooms were. I responded "Down that hall and to the left, and if you'd like some reading material while there..." and gave him my resume.

Never heard anything back from that person, so for all I know it was used for other purposes in the restroom. : -)
