I have a blender which could blend a rake handle, if I had to. Yep, I got a Blendtec Blender -- the one demonstrated here.

According to Lis, I'm not allowed to do any of the "Don't Try This At Home" ones.

Our last blender, well, I stopped using it after the unpleasant "wires burning" smell started. I figured, when your blender is catching on fire, you probably should a) replace the blender and b) with a more powerful one.

For a while, now, I've been looking at two blenders: the Vita-Mix and the BlendTec. For the most part, they're both similar: they are blenders made for Tim Allen's character on "Home Improvement". A few weeks ago, when I was at Costco, a representative from Vita-Mix was there, and gave a demo of that product. I didn't buy it. But then, this past week, a representative from BlendTec was there, and I watched the demo of THAT product.

Frankly, the demos were almost identical. They both made smoothies, they both made soup that cooked itself just from the friction of the high-speed blades. I think the recipes may have even been the same.

But I did end up purchasing the BlendTec, even though I didn't purchase the Vita-Mix. There were a couple factors: the main one was that the Blend-Tec is shorter, and will fit on our countertop, while the Vita-Mix is too tall. But "Will It Blend", I confess, was a factor, too.

I also have eight shot glasses lined up, each mostly filled with water, with some oil floating on top, and wicks that we bought at the craft store. Because I decided that I wanted an oil hannukiyah this year, and I wanted to make it myself. And that the one [livejournal.com profile] vonbeck and I made out of old Red Bull cans last year was cool, and all, but the shot glasses would look prettier.
