We can't control thoughts, so in a sense the first step of that is ridiculous. I meant it more in the sense of "don't cultivate the thought" -- don't nurture it and stew on it. That is more under your control (still not 100%, of course).
We can't control our passing thoughts, but we can still strive to not reel in the bad ones and invite them to stay for a while, y'know?
