Our sukkah is gorgeous, and the weather is unseasonably nice right now, so eating outside in it is practical and pleasant.

Sukkot is a holiday of rejoicing, so I'd like to invite anyone who's stressed out to come by to sit in it and de-stress. If I'm around, I can lend you our lulav and etrog to shake if you like, or, if it's close to a mealtime, I'll make you a sandwich or something. But even if I'm not, it's really just a nice spot to sit and think and relax.

Especially if you're stressed and/or depressed like a lot of us are. You are all welcome.

I need to figure out a better way to attach the big sign I wrote up and stapled to the outside of the sukkah, facing the street. It fell down again.

It says,

This is our "Sukkah" for the Jewish holiday of "Sukkot", as described in Lev. 23:33-44 (. . . ) "And you shall REJOICE before the LORD". If you would like to celebrate with us, or have any questions, ring the top doorbell. Guests are an important part of the holiday!"

I might just do that, but I don't know where you are.

We're in Melrose, on Main Street, just north of Franklin Street, two or three blocks north of Lynn Fells Parkway. We're across the street from Gray's Hardware, and two doors down from the building with the barbershop, antique shop, and dry cleaners. We're the one with a sukkah in the front yard.

We don't guarantee to be home -- my sister's in town from Florida, and she and I will be going up to Vermont to visit our niece and nephew and their parents at some point, and I'm also teaching Hebrew school. But you are welcome whether or not anyone else is home.

I wish Greg and I could come over and sit in your sukkah. We could both use it.

Duct tape?

That's what I'm leaning toward. I think it may hold better than the staple-gun.

zip-ties work great. Punch a few holes in the sign, thread it through there...easy to remove with no damage to the post when you're done.

Don't think zip-ties will work that well through paper.

I figure duct tape with a some staples through the tape should get you
real secure sign.

What, you don't have any paper reinforcements lying around from your high school days? :)

(I had assumed cardboard or at least construction paper.)

Butcher paper, actually. Basically, a big roll of the stuff paper bags are made from.

Love the sign. Wish I were close enough by to visit, and not just so that I could visit (although the sukkah sounds like reason enough), but because, going on ten years after moving to DC, I still feel like New England is the place where life makes the most sense.

As a visit would be impractical, I think I will just imagine it for a while...

That's wonderful. I do wish I could visit, too.

Hmmm... maybe I should have stuck around a little longer last night - I would have liked to, you know, put your Sukkah to good use (it looked pretty good to me, btw).

Probably won't have another chance. Oh well... maybe that's just as well. I never know with these things (and you never tell me).
