Look, I suppose that if you are an XKCD reader (RSS feed at xkcd_rss), there's a chance that you'd understand this, too.

But, see, as I was walking home from the store, I started wondering: if you spin Magneto around reasonably fast, does he turn into Static from Static Shock?

(Because, see, Static has control over electricity, and Magneto has control over magnetism, and magnetic fields and electrical fields are the same thing transformed through rotation. . . oh, forget it, it wasn't important anyway.)

I could just see Magneto's brain spilling out his ears as he goes from being a 70-ish Holocaust survivor to being a teen African American. ;)

Ask Dad to remind me exactly HOW electricity and magnetism are related, mathematically. I can't remember. So I can't remember if I'd have to multiply Magneto by the square root of negative one or something like that.

as I remember it, one is the time derivative of the other, i.e. they are the same thing, looked at by different frames of reference. The entity is constant, it is the observer that changes, much like being married.

Um, unless you know off the top of your head. But, I dunno, I always associate Dad with the mathematical theory behind electromagnetism, although I'd go for either of your help if I had to wire up a circuit or something.

I dunno. I've always assumed that Dad was better with a bandsaw, but that you're both pretty much equal with a soldering gun. Maybe the edge to you.
