Finished the book

It doesn't suck.

Mine's not here yet. That does suck.

Bloody hell indeed. I'll bring mine to the theater tonight and you're welcome to borrow it overnight. I've offered to lend it to [livejournal.com profile] yehoshua after tomorrow's show, so I'd need it back tomorrow, but if he finds another source before that you can hang onto it. :)

Rocks fall, everyone dies?

Actually, I think that would've been better. This book seemed like such a cop-out--so stylistically lazy... only about the last hundred pages had my attention because the headless chicken style began to have a purpose. At the end I wanted to read more of the Orson Scott Card book I'd started a couple days ago, which was so much better. Blah.

But that's no different from any of the rest of the series. It didn't bother me, since that's what I was expecting.

Remember -- a lot of the fanfics are better written than JKR's stuff. . .

Mmm...true. And I've only read maybe two HP fanfics, ever. But then, I like epic style. I like people rushing around finding things toward an Ultimate Confrontation of Doom. But it should be, well, developing of character, primarily. Not just a lot of roaming around and bickering, and in most of the previous books the bickering served the purpose of furthering friendships while allowing the characters enough time to go off and do their pre-Saving the World trainings. Repetitive, yes, but JKR managed to find a knack for it. But the final chapter in DH is definitely what made me put down the book in disgust--frankly, "rocks fall!" would've been better. Blah.

Really? I'd say it got its feet under it a third of the way in. Which is still too long, but far from the last hundred pages.
