"O Holy Crap" OK, that's also the title of the blog entry I'm linking to but what else can you say?

Blame this on dakiwiboid. I got to it through her LiveJournal. And she got to it from Diane Duane's blog.

Anyway.

This is a discussion of, and, more importantly, a downloadable MP3 of, the worst rendition of "O Holy Night" ever done, anywhere. (And I'm including this one as one of the ones that is better.) The supposition is that this was an audition tape sent in for the Christ In Youth summer program talent show. By someone who, presumably, thought he had talent.

The first twenty seconds or so are just wince-worthy. Then the next twenty seconds are actively painful. But then, something changes. And it becomes Ed Wood-level great.

My stomach hurts from laughing too much. I may start listening to this clip in lieu of doing sit-ups.

Oh, man, about two-thirds of the way through when he... tries to go up an octave? I'm not even sure what he's going for there, but wow.

I do admire the way he can belt it out. I tend to sing very very quietly, because I'm used to trying to hide it.

Many things are possible. It is a large world with many people in it, and it is certainly possible that this was done on purpose.

But I find it easier to believe that someone could be clueless enough to produce that, rather than brilliant enough to produce that. But, frankly, either is possible.
