I have no idea how long this link will work.

Three-year-old insists on a "NewsHour with Jim Lehrer"-themed birthday party.

It's ADORABLE. According to his father, "Outside of six to seven o'clock every weekday night, he's very normal."

He recognizes the anchors and reporters, and calls out their names when they come on screen. His mother shows off his current events knowledge:
"Who's the President?"
"Bush!"
"Who's the Vice-President?"
"Teiny!"
"Who's the Secretary of State?"
"Coni!"
"And who's the Secretary of Defense?"
"Rumfeld!"

He's three. He has better current events knowledge than, like, 80% of voters.

I recommend Pinkwater's _Lizard Music_--the narrator is a somewhat older kid who's a Walter Cronkite fan.

As for the rest, I wish no one felt a need to reassure us all that the kid is otherwise normal.

heh heh heh. so cute!

What's funny is that when I was his age, I was able to do the same thing but with planets, moons, and other space objects. AWwww. I want kids like him!

(At least some) Three year olds have an amazing capacity for remembering trivia. I knew all sorts of Bible trivia at the age, most of which I've long forgotten.

It reminds me of when I was 4 and obsessed with weather and anything weather-related, and wanted to marry the local weatherman.

My experience is that three-year-olds will know everything about whatever they're obsessed with - and they have as many different interests as anyone else. One kid I babysat was into baseball cards, and knew every player and all their stats. That wouldn't have been so unusual, except that he was only three or four at the time and couldn't read. His brother had an infallible sense of direction, knew every street for miles around, and at six could give youdirections to Disneyword from his house. He lived in Philadelphia. (Granted, an awful lot of that is I-95. But still.) The older one is 30, married and balding these days. (Eep!) But I think he still doesn't get lost.
