Even though some of the worst flooding in Melrose is a block away, we're fine

Right down the hill, the parking lot of the supermarket has eight inches of water in it. In the parking lot of the condominiums next to it, there are cars in water over their tires. Apartment buildings nearby are being evacuated, and there have been sporadic reports of plumbing backing up in disgusting ways.

None of this has, however, directly affected our home, baruch Hashem, and knock on wood. We're at the top of the hill where all this is happening at the bottom. We may be the only people in Massachusetts on my friends list who don't need a sump pump. If anyone is flooded out, bring over a sleeping bag -- we can probably give you a dry spot to sleep in.

I've been making gopher wood jokes all weekend, myself.

We're high & dry here too, baruch hashem. Sharon's fairly high up, so no evacuations here, but the drive back from Maine last night was quite hairy.

Glad to hear it! So far I haven't heard that anyone else I know up there has been significantly flooded, so here's hoping.

PLEASE, SEND THE RAIN OUR WAY!!!! Here in Fl. we have only had 1.5 inches of rain in the last 2 or 3 months. The fires on the East Coast have been so bad that I-95 has been shut down in spots for weeks now due to smoke. So, feel free to send the rain down here! Thanks :)

There will be rain today! I'm pretty sure. :)

(btw, where are you? I'm in Sanford, and I should meet a friend of Ian who lives down here. :)

[identity profile] theletterelle.livejournal.com 2006-05-15 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy God, you're Leila. *blinks*

I met you once, long ago.

*friends you immediately*

Yeah, we had some nice rains today, but not enough to put out the fires completely... just contain them... But, it's been a nice lazy day and *shocked* no lightning strikes! So that's good.

Also, I live in Winter Springs near the Oviedo Marketplace. :)

[identity profile] theletterelle.livejournal.com 2006-05-16 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
mmm, today was beautiful. :)

Okay, we have to go out for dinner or something at least. When's good for you?

[identity profile] alcinoe.livejournal.com 2006-05-15 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
You aren't the only. We are at the top of a gentle incline, and we only have a small trickle in our basement and that is because our gutters were messed up by the kids.

Glad to hear you're okay. So far, I'm staying dry. Good thing I repaired the berm at the top of the driveway last Fall!

Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] sproutntad; we need the rain, too, only spread out a bit more. Besides, it's almost June. Be careful what you wish for!

[identity profile] xiphias.livejournal.com 2006-05-15 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, good. I was a little worried about you, and am glad to hear that that little pile of asphalt is keeping your house dry.

[identity profile] greenlily.livejournal.com 2006-05-15 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
We too are unflooded, thank heavens. Also un-mouldy; we have no carpets and have discerned, through a high-tech experiment involving grape tomatoes left out on the counter until they shrivelled, that our apartment is naturally extremely dry. Yay.

Were you hoping for pet tomatoes? I miss my pet apples from first year. So sad that my roommate felt the need to throw them out whenever I went away.

We're fine here in Cambridge as well. Even Mem drive appears to be mostly behaving.

Glad to hear it. I'm fairly oblivious, but Dan looked at me this morning and said "Ian and Lis's house is on the top of a hill, right?" So we were concerned.

Now let's just hope that your sewer lines hold :)

So far, so good.

We're at the top of a hill too.

When we go to the grocery store, we pass the manhole fountain covers at the bottoms of hills, though ...

Glad you are ok, staying warm and dry. This weather makes me want to cuddle under the covers and sleep all the time.

Glad you're okay, been thinking about all the folks I know in the area and trying not to worry.
