More Lis and Ian arguments.

Ian: Ow. My mouth hurts.
Lis: Take a painkiller?
Ian: That's your answer for everything. That involves pain. "Take an analgesic. And find out what the source of the pain is. And talk to a doctor about how to fix it." That's what you ALWAYS say.

Sounds like a good answer to me.

I think that's the problem.

Is there any other kind of answer that would be useful?

There was no question. Why answer?

If you think about it, this is not dissimilar to how you were raised, i.e. "If you can get your head in there, you can (logically) get it out"

And if you think about it, that's likely the advice you'd give anyone who isn't you.

Or is it not advice you want?

First thought: But what else would one say?

Second thought: A side order of sympathy would probably be a nice touch.

I tend to bug Kathy to take something when she's complaining about pain, cos she complains about pain fairly often and almost never takes anything for it, so my sympthy is rather dried up by now. Adam doesn't tend to mention being in pain, he just gets grouchy. And I tell people I feel lousy and then go take a nap.
