And one of the questions was describe your perfect mate and she wrote "Ian Osmond", and it reminded me of that study a couple years ago that happy marriages are based on self-delusion.

So I mentioned that to Lis, I said, "You remember that study a couple years back that in happy marriages, spouses rated their spouses more attractive, smarter, more interesting than they really were?"

"Well, yeah," she said, "of course. I mean, of course people would have to delude themselves that they had the perfect husband, since I'm the one who does."

"Yeah, that makes sense," I said, "I guess other folks would have to tell themselves that their spouses were as attractive as, say, you are. So I guess it makes sense that. . ."

Together: ". . . everyone else has to delude themselves that their spouses are as wonderful as you are."
