I went to the doctor today to ask zir why my hand's hurt since September 14 when I punched a wall. After prodding it for a bit, the med student told me that there is almost no chance that there's a fracture there, so just some soft tissue is probably inflamed. The doctor, when he showed up, concurred, and suggested a wrist brace, 600 mg of ibuprofen 3x a day (with food) for two weeks, and avoiding typing and playing guitar. I'm doing the brace and the drugs. :)

They also asked me about anger management issues, and I said that I punch inanimate objects two or three times a year, and have never harmed a living being in anger, and that my wife doesn't particularly find my anger scary, since she's perfectly clear that I'm not going to hurt anyone. Annoying, because I punch walls, yeah. But scary, no.

By punching walls hard enough to have your hand hurt for months, it might be said you've harmed yourself in anger.

Just make sure you don't make holes in said walls when punching them, I suggest, eyeing the lovely spackle-job in the hallway.

I got good at replastering walls in high school.

Anyway, a very nice painting called "Mess of Books" is hanging over the hole, now. Pardon typos, please; the wrist brace is hitting random keys occasionally. I think I've got it mainly cleaned up, though. The typos, I mean.

FWIW, this userpic is a slightly smaller version of "Mess of Books" which is now hanging over the hole in our hallway. This link will show an image of the painting actual size.

I really like the artist, Fanny Brennan. We have two of her works plus her coffee-table book (about the size of a drink coaster). Her sense of humor seems to map well to my own. You can see more of her artwork here if anyone's interested.

Good luck with it. I would also recommend wrapping it in a hot (preferably damp) towel after long bouts of typing or guitar playing, since you say you're not giving those up. :)

Oooh, I like this. I like small detailed bite-size pieces of art, but you knew that already.
