I was out of town for an overnight trip to visit a friend yesterday. I got home this afternoon, and I saw what I thought was a hairball or some such thing on the floor in the front room. I did some unpacking-type stuff, and checked email and that sort of thing, and then decided that I really ought to take care of the hairball.

I got a paper towel, and picked it up, and it wasn't a hairball -- it was a rather chewed-up and soggy mouse.

Now, the last time the cats saw a mouse, a few weeks back, they were rather puzzled by the whole thing, and they kinda played with it, but not in any particular serious way. But, a few days ago, we got them some 99-cent mousie toys, and they have both been INTENSELY playing with them for days, batting them around, grabbing them in their mouths, throwing them around.

So it's possible that they've been training themselves. And it's possible that the training's paid off.

I can't know for sure, because I didn't see it. But I just gave them kitty treats, just in case.
