A couple days ago, Father was bitten by a tick -- again -- and came down with a case of Lyme disease -- again. Mom's out of town -- more about that later, so Dad was home alone. When Mom phoned him, he did NOT seem like he was doing well, so she called me, and also my grandparents.
Nonnie and Papa went over there Thursday day, and I went over Thursday night. I slept on the floor in the meditation room next to my parents' bedroom, so that I could hear if Dad needed me (and also because the rug in the meditation room is really, really comfortable.
He was borderline delirious when I got there at about 9:30. Around 2:30 AM, however, he woke up, stretched, walked into the kitchen, took his antibiotics and a glass of water, and we chatted. He was totally fine. He went back to sleep for a couple more hours, then got up at five to go out swimming. Because Friday was the "official" opening of the swimming season at the lake, he wanted to get there early in order to get a swim in before people were going to meet to swim.
So his plan was to swim, then go to the social hour, then go swimming with everyone else.
He put a sign on the door after leaving: "Feeling better! Gone to work!"
I wrote under it: "Actually, he is. This isn't Dad just being stubborn."
So why is Mom out of town? She's working in a communal living center as a chaplain, as part of her pastoral training. She describes the place as a combination of Celebration, Florida, the Village from the Prisoner, and the Teletubbies homeworld.
The thing you have to understand is that, for Mom, this means that she totally loves the place. Those are three of the places that she'd most like to live. She's having a blast.
Also, our snap peas are ready to harvest, and they're delicious. The broccoli is good, too. So are some of the radishes, but I over-planted them, so a lot of them are just too squished together to be good.
I bought a little tabletop Webber grill, and I grilled up some chicken breasts last night. I marinated them in wine, lemon juice, garlic, capers, salt, pepper, and an Italian seasonings mix, then grilled them over charcoal.
The night before, I grilled hot dogs.
These were the first two times in my LIVE I've ever grilled anything.
Came out pretty well, too.
