Our vocabulary word for today is "irony"

I've been looking for good examples of irony to give as counterexamples to people who are misusing the word.

At Woodlawn High, fight erupts amid anger management lesson

( Two people are arrested in brawl, including parent; 11 students suspended )

Halachically valid but still feels wrong

While shopping for Pesach, I saw kosher-for-pesach BEER!

I don't know how they do it, except it's actually a mead, not a beer,

I didn't buy any. If there's any left over after Pesach, I'll pick some up.

I hope today's encouraging economic news pans out

Lots more jobs! Stock market up! Umm . . . other good stuff!

On the other hand. . . I note that the Dow Jones goes up the day that they switch which stocks go into the Dow Jones. Does that really count?

And I'm cynical and suspicious enough of the Bush administration that, while I HOPE that the job picture is more or less what they're saying, I can't be certain. Not yet. I want to see someone who is as suspicious and cynical as I am, but who has accountancy and economic training, take a look at the numbers and see if it's real.
