(no subject)

Lis and I found ourself in Arlington, near where I grew up, this afternoon, so we went out for pizza at the shop around the corner from the house I grew up in. Mary, behind the counter, recognized me. The pizza was good, too. (Nicola's Pizza in Arlington Heights.) After we finished, we went across the street to the New Age bookstore, Unicorn Books. While we were there, three teenagers walked in; I estimate they were about fourteen or so.

It just gave me a good feeling listening to them -- they were having fun, reading the books, looking through the Wicca section, chatting about religion. I couldn't help but eavesdrop, and Lis and I did, we admit, chuckle a little at some of their conversation -- not, I hasten to add, in condesension or ridicule, but just because it was so cute" e.g. "My God, there are too many deities. It'd just be simpler if you collapsed them all into one God and one Goddess."

It was the interjection at the beginning of the statement that caused the giggling on our part -- the rest of the sentence, however, pretty much summed up an entire school of thought on theological universalism which I thought was very neatly put.

Anyway, of course we ended up talking to them, about religion mostly, and a couple questions came up: what the heck does CCD stand for, for instance (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, I believe). Anyway, it was fun. I just like knowing that there are young geeks out there.

Then we went back to Nicola's and bought canoli.
