Early December, 1916:
Rasputin writes a letter to Czarina Alexandra saying,

I write and leave behind me this letter at St. Petersburg. I feel that I shall leave life before January 1st. I wish to make known to the Russian people, to Papa, to the Russian Mother and to the children, to the land of Russia, what they must understand. If I am killed by common assassins, and especially by my brothers the Russian peasants, you, Tsar of Russia, have nothing to fear, remain on your throne and govern, and you, Russian Tsar, will have nothing to fear for your children, they will reign for hundreds of years in Russia. But if I am murdered by boyars, nobles, and if they shed my blood, their hands will remain soiled with my blood, for twenty-five years they will not wash their hands from my blood. They will leave Russia. Brothers will kill brothers, and they will kill each other and hate each other, and for twenty-five years there will be no noblers in the country. Tsar of the land of Russia, if you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigory has been killed, you must know this: if it was your relations who have wrought my death then no one of your family, that is to say, none of your children or relations will remain alive for more than two years. They will be killed by the Russian people...I shall be killed. I am no longer among the living. Pray, pray, be strong, think of your blessed family.

Late December, 1916:
Nicholas II's cousin, Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich and gang bring him to Prince Felix Yusupovsky's castle, and feed Rasputin poisoned cakes and wine, which do nothing. Then Felix shoots him, Rasputin collapses, and Felix goes out to tell everyone the good news. They send him back in, to make sure Rasputin's dead, and Rasputin gets up and starts strangling Felix. Felix manages to break free and escape, screaming for help, everybody charges in, and Rasputin is gone. They find him in the yard, crawling towards the gate, and they shoot him more and bludgeon him and stab him, and tie up the body, and throw it inthe river.

When the body is found, the ropes are broken, and his lungs are filled with water, showing that he didn't die for some time after. . .

July 16, 1918
The entire Romanov family is killed. With the possible exeption of Princess Anastasia.

September 1918
The Red Sox win their most recent World Series.

Conclusion:

Rasputin's curse on the Romanovs may not have completely worked, because of the possible survival of Anastasia. This means that there was some unused curse vibes floating around in the second half of 1918. Those curse vibes hit the Sox and stuck.

So, therefore, in order to have the Sox win a Series, we clearly have to reinstate the Tsars.

Hey, they can't be significantly worse than any of the other governments Russia has gone through. . .

I'll see your despotic regime...

And raise you several nuclear-sized explosions.

1945: Atomic bombs are used in combat for the first and only times; the Cubs make their last appearance in the World Series.

1908: The Tunguska explosion and the Cubs last victory in the World Series.

There was some talk this year of GWB nuking someone in mid-October just to give the Cubs a chance, but in previous years the CRE (championship resulting explosion) occured durng the regular season (6 August 1945 and 30 June 1908) so a post-season detonation would have likely been too late.

Clearly, if the Tsarists use nuclear weapons to retake the Russian throne, we will be looking at a Cubs-Red Sox World Series.
