I shall always have depression as an issue that I have to consider, and when I'm stressed it's so much worse, but I get to be mostly functional as long as I don't try to work full-time and don't try to come off my meds. I can do part-time, and it's good for me, but not full-time.
When you can afford it, try cognitive behavioural therapy. It's a way of adjusting your thinking processes and getting rid of negative thought spirals that make you anxious and dysfunctional. So most people find that it works wonders for stopping the really bad, big-D depression coming back.
