I had my root canal today.

My tooth had been hurting pretty badly, so Uncle David fit me in today. I had thought he was just going to put a sedative filling in, but he managed to clear out enough of his schedule that he could give me an hour and a half or so.

So, how bad is a root canal? It seems to me that that depends largely on the skill of the dentist. I could sense that things could have gotten very painful with a clumsy or inexperienced dentist. But, as David has steady hands, skill and experience, and plenty of Novocaine, the root canal wasn't bad.

There were two instances where there was significant pain for about a second. And my tooth will be sore for a day or two. But it hurts so much less than it did this morning.

They say in general you get better care at hospitals associated with medical schools than at private hospitals. I could see the same logic extending to dental schools.

Yay for the tooth not hurting as much anymore!
